Here's everything you need under 1 Lakh
Madhuri asked me in a recent AMA on what I would recommend for a working couple who are just starting out to setup their house. Thank you for asking this question as it took me back to the time I was setting up my home afresh. Incidentally - these were the exact set of products I purchased many years ago (I’m not going to disclose the years as it will disclose my age) except for the dishwasher and the robot vacuum cleaner.

So today - I’ll share what are the essential appliances required if you are a working couple and are setting up your new home. I’m going to share two threads - one a budget thread where the overall cost is less than 1 lac and another one - still budget with some slightly better products. As always - all products are linked in the description. I also created a handy list that you can just look at and buy from.
Let’s go!
Assuming you are the order in generation with occasional cooking or are just learning how to cook - a 2-3 burner stove is sufficient for your usecase. Also assuming you are living in a rented place - so I would recommend a cooktop rather than a hob for your usecase.
I would recommend the Elica Vetro Glass Top 3 model in this case - for both scenarios https://amzn.to/382y33V at a price of Rs. 3,299.
Next you need a water filter. No compromises here as water quality affects overall health. If you live in an area with hard water, I recommend the Kent Supreme Lite https://amzn.to/3ddpgPR at 12,999 and if you live in an area with soft water of TDS less than 200PPM, I recommend Eureka Forbes Aquaflo DX https://amzn.to/3xPI4MS at Rs. 5899.
You need a refrigerator. A refrigerator is an investment that would last you atleast 8-10 years. So although you could have gone for a smaller size, for a slightly more budget, you can go for one that you could use for a long period of time. So I recommend Samsung https://amzn.to/3yaiemC 192 L 2 Star Direct Cool Single Door Refrigerator (RR19A241BGS/NL) for the budget usecase at Rs. 12,790. Remember that this is a 2 star refrigerator and electricity consumption would be higher than a 4 or 5 star refrigerator. For a higher budget of ₹27,800- I would recommend the two door 253+ Liter samsung model https://amzn.to/3gpDLSe. It is much bigger to store all that food and drinks that you may want for your super active social life. Why Samsung - I’ve been using Samsung refrigerator for over 12 years now (the same fridge) and have barely have any issues so far. Not once have I called the service engineer - touch wood!.
In addition - you need a mixer grinder / food processor. For the budget version, you can just go for a mixer grinder - which is sufficient if you are cooking in small quantities and don’t mind mixing dough and cutting veggies manually - since the quantity cooked is small. To this day, I continue with a mixer grinder only and don’t use a food processor. You can go with a basic Philips mixer grinder at 3.2 k https://amzn.to/3mqF9aP . But if you want to plan for longevity and want to plan for a growing family or assuming you have a lifestyle where you have more smoothies and juices as well - I recommend you to go with a mixer grinder cum food processor. https://amzn.to/3ydURIK at an approximate cost of 10k
The other appliance I would recommend is an optional one - if you eat bread a lot. You can get a sandwich maker A basic sandwich maker will cost you about 1.2k https://amzn.to/2WhNYZV
The other thing I would recommend young couples is a Microwave. Atleast in my household, especially if we have ordered in something, It is common for refrigerating and eating food the next day - then a microwave alone is a good option. https://amzn.to/3gMGBRA 5,500 For a slightly more expensive price - I would recommend this option of microwave + convection + air fryer + curd maker etc - You can bake both sweet and savory as well in this.https://amzn.to/3tet0aJ 10k+
Now we are done with the kitchen, let’s look at the cleaning appliances. If you - like me - don’t plan to engage a house help in the near term - then a dishwasher, a robot vacuum and a washing machine should be in your arsenal.
For a dishwasher, since we are assuming you are just starting out and are a working couple - a small table top dishwasher should suffice. A voltas beko table top dishwasher is available at about 20k. https://amzn.to/3vCfONt. For a slightly higher budget of 30K - I recommend you to go for aleast a 12 place setting dishwasher- so you don’t have to run the dishwasher as often. I recommend the Faber dishwasher https://amzn.to/38O47cP.
The robot vacuum cleaner is a boon for handsfree cleaning. And you will be surprised by how much dust can get collected in the house. For a robot vacuum cleaner, the best option I recommend is the MI robot vacuum mop - available for about 25k https://amzn.to/3BltjUq and a budget option could be the Milagrow Seagull Joy https://amzn.to/3tcVSiN at about 12K
Lastly for a washing machine - I recommend a top load washing machine which is quite convenient and at a low budget when starting a new home. The Panasonic Top load washing machine https://amzn.to/3B3CrME is available at about ₹13,390. If air drying clothes is a chore like it is for me, I recommend the one I purchased - so I don’t have to spend any time on drying my clothes. Much higher budget but I would say totally worth it. https://amzn.to/3taH7Md available at 43k.
Now coming to TV - if you are staying in a rented house - I’m guessing you may want to go with a smaller sized TV rather than a massive one. I won’t recommend going for a really small TV as it’s something you may want to change very soon, in a year or two - which would mean that money would get wasted. I would recommend a TV upto the size of about 40 inches. A 32” LED tv would cost about 17K https://amzn.to/3B1P76K and a 40” LED tv would cost you about 24k https://amzn.to/3Dj2YaX
Other smaller appliances like Iron I have not included as it is available for a small price of 500-1000 rupees.
So in total - the budget option comes up to less than Rs. 1,00,000.
Most of the cost on the higher end comes from the washing machine and refrigerator - so you can work out a combination of the two budgets to come up with products close to 1.3 - 1.4 lacs.
