WD70M4443JS / WD70M4443JW review and demo
I purchased a Samsung Washer Dryer - a 7kg washing capacity and 5 kg drying capacity. In my previous video series on washer dryer comparisons - I mentioned that this model is the best for my usecase and that’s the reason I also purchased this one. Take a look at that video comparison of various washer dryers if you have not already. It covers what size to buy, whether an integrated or separate washer dryer should be purchased and comparisons. I’ve linked to them all in the description.
There were a few reasons I went for a washer dryer:
I did not want to air dry my clothes - mainly cos’ of the amount of time it takes for me and it is one of the most boring tasks from my point of view
It spoils the aesthetic of a home / utility area to see our clothes hanging - i don’t have a covered area - so everybody who walks into my kitchen can see it
I would have ideally liked a separate washer and separate dryer but did not have the space

REVIEW OF WASHER-DRYER
I bought the Samsung __ model of washer dryer. It is ideal for small families or families that are ok to use the machine on a more frequent basis - mainly cos if you want full drying - it needs to be filled only to the capacity of the dryer - which is 5 kgs - so can hold a volume of 20-25 shirts.
Let’s talk about the results first and then go over the details - I have tried bedsheets, towels, jeans, regular cotton clothes, undergarments - all of them come with a 100% drying - i.e., cupboard dry. When I take it out from the machine - it is quite hot due to the temperature used during the cycle. But I can just fold it and keep it inside the wardrobe. That is the biggest benefit. The biggest con is the amount of time it takes. 5.5 hours for a daily wash cycle is a bit much. I don’t have a problem with it as I have a best practice of putting it for wash at night and when I wake up in the morning - the clothes are done. There is an option called delay end in the machine - which means that it will end at the time you select. The benefit of this is that I keep it to the time that I wake up - so the clothes don’t stay in the machine for longer than it should. If you keep it longer, it gets all crumpled.
Now let’s talk about the details:
USING A STAND WITH WASHER-DRYER
The first thing that was recommended by the technician is that a washer-dryer has very high spin capacity (about 1400 RPM) so you should not keep it on a stand or have to use specialized stands for the washer-dryer. I chose not to purchase one immediately. So at the moment I have kept it on the floor directly. The main problem with this is the cleaning below the floor - it is difficult to move this machine as it is so heavy and I have limited space in the utility area.
SORTING OF CLOTHES FOR WASHER-DRYER
Sorting your clothes - this is general guideline for all washing machine but specially so in the case of washer dryer as it due to the heat and high spin during drying - it may damage your clothes. A good guideline is -
sort by type - cotton, mixed fibres, synthetics, silks, wools, and rayon.
Sort by color - white and light colored clothes should be washed separately
Sort by sensitivity - delicate items must be washed separately - preferably in a laundry bag. I purchased a new laundry bag for my delicates and undergarments. I’ve linked to it in the description.
HOW MANY KGS IN WASHER-DRYER
Ok now let’s start with the wash - firstly don’t overload if you require full drying capability. I put only 5kg or less. When I’m washing sheets and pillow covers - I put a maximum of 2 sheets and 4 pillow covers for optimum washing. When putting curtains - you can put your curtains in a laundry bag - or the rings will get malformed or come out of the curtains. A maximum of 2-3 door curtains as the volume is high.
In the detergent compartment - I use a liquid detergent. If you need to add whiteners like ala bleach, add it along with the liquid in this compartment for the detergent. If you are using powder, you have to open this up. If you are using fabric softener, you can add it in the middle one - make sure you don’t fill it up beyond the max line.
WASH PROGRAMS IN WASHER-DRYER
Now let’s come to the cycles - there are a number of cycles that you can use based on the type of clothes. Like mentioned earlier - sort the clothes and then select the appropriate type - cotton, synthetic, wool, baby care, daily wash, quick wash. I normally use daily wash for regular clothes and baby care for delicate clothes. If you have only a few handful clothes and specially if they are synthetic, you can try the 59 minutes wash plus dry cycle. It does not do complete drying for cottons - yes I tried :) But it works for synthetics. There is also a 15 min quick wash cycle which can be used for lightly soiled clothes.
DRYING LEVEL IN WASHER-DRYER
Drying level - once you select the specific cycle to run - you can allow the cycle to automatically decide OR you can manually set the drying time. For daily wash - the wash plus dry cycle takes about 5.5 hours. For delicates - it takes about __ hours. You can manually set it to a lower drying time - I tried it a few times, almost always the drying was not perfect when I did that. So I prefer to go with the default timing selected.
If you have run a wash cycle separately - you can also run a dry only cycle and there are default cycles provided for that - like cotton dry, synthetics dry and air wash. Air wash is a unique capability I saw - so if you have kept your clothes in the wardrobe for a while and have a musty smell, you can use airwash to deodorize and sanitize the clothes.
HEATER IN WASHER-DRYER
You can adjust the temperature manually or allow the cycle to select automatically. I allow the cycle to select automatically for daily wash cycle (40 degrees) and reduce the temperature to 20 degrees for delicates.
SPIN LEVELS OF WASHER-DRYER
You can adjust the spin levels - lower spin levels could mean lesser drying capacity - but I have not tried this and leave it at the default spin levels.
Next - there are some additional options like intensive - for heavily soiled clothes, rinse + - if you want additional rinsing of your clothes, bubble soak - if you want to soak soiled clothes in soap water and pre-wash. Selecting any of these will add additional time to your overall cycle.
MAINTENANCE OF WASHER-DRYER
Let’s talk about regular maintenance:
Every 40 washes or so there will be an alert to clean the drum. It’s called an eco drum clean. Don’t add any clothes or detergent or liquid or softener - just run the cycle for the eco drum clean.
The machine comes with an adapter at the water inlet to collect the dust particles in water. You will need to clean this on a monthly basis.
Machine also contains a lint collector or pump filter. This needs to be cleaned once a month.
If your machine stops due to power failure, first drain out the water from the machine from the emergency drain before removing your clothes.
