How to select the best hair dryer in India

Drop me a comment on how you have been selecting your hair dryers. For the longest time - I have been selecting the wrong hair dryers because I barely knew what to look for. And I always wondered how the hair dryers in parlors were so damn good. So in this video, I’ll guide you on what you must look for in a hair dryer to give you a finish like professional hair dryers.

I’m comparing quite a few models that can be classified as professional hair dryers. You will notice that most big brands like Havells, Philips are not on this list - as most of their hair dryers have lower wattage. I'm comparing:

If you would like just the recommendation - jump right to the end.

The first thing to look for is wattage. Wattage determines how quickly a hair dryer can dry and how much heat a hair dryer can generate. Higher the wattage the better. Most often we make the mistake of selecting hair dryers that are less than 1500 watts - with these, drying will take way too long and styling the hair will not be perfect. Previously I had used 2 Philips hair dryers and never got my hair styling right (my earlier videos are justification of this :D )

As you can see on the screen most of the ones that I will review in the hair dryer segment are upwards of 2000W for best quality salon like drying and styling.

The next thing to look for is the technology used. Unfortunately not all vendors and models in India publish this. If you have thick and frizzy hair - you may want to select an Ionic hair dryer which produces negative ions to offset the positive ions generated by wet hair. If you have fine and delicate hair - you may want to select a ceramic hair dryer which has better temperature control.

Attachments - most hair dryers come with a concentrator attachment - which is only ideal for straight and silky finish. If you are somebody with wavy or curly hair - you will want to purchase one with a diffuser attachment - which is useful in distributing the heat across your curls. These are the two main ones. Very high priced ones like the dyson have some additional attachments like the smoothening attachment. All of the ones compared come with a concentrator but Vega Pro Touch and Rylan Chaoba do not come with a diffuser attachment - so not ideal for curly and wavy hair.

Heat and speed settings - lower priced and lower wattage models do not have a flexibility in controlling heat and speed. However, professional style hair dryers like the ones I’ve compared have atleast 2-3 heat settings - which is ideal. If you have fine and delicate hair - make sure to use a lower heat setting. Very high priced ones like the dyson have automatic heat control in addition to the manual settings - to ensure the excess heat does not damage the hair.

All the ones reviewed have a cool shot setting - which should be used after drying and styling your hair to ensure the styling stays. No differentiation here amongst models.

Overheat protection is an important one - I had atleast one philips hair dryer that burst on me due to heating issues. Not all hair dryers have this either. Amongst the ones compared - the WAHL, Vega and Agaro hair dryers have the overheat protection.

As these are high performance hair dryers, none of them are foldable.

From a warranty point of view - some have it, some don’t. But for such lower priced products - I don’t believe the warranty works very well. Pricing varies from around 1100 to almost 2500. Yes, there are many higher priced products like Dyson in the market, I have not included that in this comparison. From a reviews perspective - the ones I have selected are the best of the best - all have over a 4+ rating.

RECOMMENDATION FOR BEST PROFESSIONAL HAIR DRYER FOR HOME

My #1 recommendation is the AGARO HD-1150 - it comes with a concentrator and diffuser attachment - so ideal for both fine and thick hair, straight and wavy hair, high wattage of 2200W, overheat protection and a 2 year warranty. It also comes at a good pricepoint of around Rs. 1500.

My #2 recommendation for budget conscious users is the HESLEY ARIA . it comes with a concentrator and diffuser attachment - so ideal for both fine and thick hair, straight and wavy hair, high wattage of 2200W and comes at a good pricepoint of around Rs. 1100. The two key things you will miss by taking this budget option is the overheat protection and a warranty - warranty like I said is not much value in products like this.

I hope this was useful, thank you for watching and see you in the next video.
