I’m going to mute the lady’s name so I don’t trigger your Amazon BEEP devices at your home as you watch this video. I have a 15 year old home, so a lot of the fancy inbuilt automation is tough to achieve. In this video - I’ll show you some basic equipment I have put together to build an automated home that works for me. Yes I plan to add a few more things - which I will talk about in the end.

HOW TO USE WIFI LIGHTS IN INDIA
The most basic thing I purchased is the wifi light. I bought a few. My main usecase for the light is to turn the lights on and off when I’m not at home. Not that it matters to burglars but it’s just an emotional sense of security. I set it to turn on at 5 30 PM and turn off around 11 30 PM when I’m not at home. So even when I am back home, I can see the lights on. I also use it to change the light color - when I’m in meetings, I prefer the cool light and when not, I prefer a warm tone. You can also use it to dim after a particular time to use as a night lamp or change colors based on your preference. Some also change colors with music playing, I don’t find need for it - maybe you do.

BENEFITS OF USING WIFI PLUG POINT IN INDIA
I also have this wifi plug point that I extensively use. I normally go for a workout every evening at 5PM. I have the wifi plug point attached to my geyser so every evening at 5 30 PM - the geyser turns on to ensure I have hot water for my shower after my workout. I also use this plugpoint for my AC - because I was stingy and did not buy an AC with wifi. So this is useful to turn on the AC before you arrive home to keep your room / home cool. If your AC does not have a timer, then you can also set a timer for the AC to turn off after a point in time. I have also set up an Alexa routine which turns off all appliances and lights that I want to turn off when I say Alexa I’m leaving.

HOW TO USE IR HUB IN INDIA
How many remotes do you have for turning on your TV? I have 3! One for the TV, one for the sound bar and another for Amazon Firestick. So for devices that don’t have wifi but have an Infrared / IR remote, I have an IR control hub. In my case, I’ve connected all of these to the hub and also linked it to the lady. So when I have to turn on the TV, all I have to say is Alexa turn on entertainment and all three get turned on. I can navigate the tv and soundbar through my phone, or remote or even Alexa.

I have a robot vacuum and an air purifier - which both have an inbuilt integration with Alexa - I normally use the app to turn on the robot vacuum when I’m not at home or want to clean specific rooms. But what’s more interesting is setting up of Alexa routines.
SETTING UP AMAZON ROUTINES IN INDIA
If there are a common set of things that you do every time you get into the house or get out of the house - you can set an Alexa routine. So for example, every time I’m leaving the house, I have the following routine set:
Turn off lights except one
Turn off AC and geyser, if not turned off already
Turn off TV, soundbar
Turn on the robot vacuum to clean the home when I’m not at home.
You can also set a routine like a morning routine:
Turn on music to a particular station or turn on the news
Turn on geyser
Turn on your coffee maker automatically (yes that’s a thing)
Read out your calendar for the day
