Essential home appliances for the next lockdown

It seems like 2020 all over again. Last year April was the worst time for many of us - we started valuing our house help so much more after April 2020. That said - right after the lockdown opened up and we were allowed to order - I ordered my dishwasher and robot vacuum cleaner to make life so much more automated and easier. Today let’s discuss some essential products that you may want to consider purchasing if we are heading into another lockdown and cannot avail a lot of services that we used.

I’m breaking this down into 3 categories: fitness and grooming, cleaning and cooking. If you would like to go to the specific section - just click on that particular chapter and get right to it. Also all the products are linked in the description if you would like to go right to it.

ESSENTIAL FITNESS APPLIANCES FOR HOME GYM

Let’s start with things that get ignored the most during lockdown - fitness and grooming - and then go to some essential home appliances.

Let’s talk about fitness. I’m somebody who used to go to the gym everyday. Sometimes I used to do two classes or two hours of workout during the weekend. So obviously you don’t want to go from that to no activity in no time. I’m being honest - going to the gym is one of the things I miss the MOST during the last year. So I created a mini home gym with just 3 equipments:

  1. Adjustable dumbbells - one sized dumbell would not cut it for me. So I got these adjustable dumbbells from durafit which is awesome. You can adjust to 5 different weights within a single dumbbell. And can go upto 25kgs per hand. I have the one with 12.5 kgs per hand - which is sufficient for a home workout. If you like kettlebells - you also get adjustable kettlebells from durafit. There are a lot of much cheaper models available than Durafit - I was not happy with the make with pvc and hence purchased the durafit model.

  2. Resistance Bands - this is the other product that I really like. I bought this before I bought anything else as it was easily available post lockdown. It adds a good intensity to the workout that you are doing.

  3. Pull up bar - the pull up bar I purchased is from Decathlon that is awesome - no screws required just adjust it on your door or wall and it can take a weight upto 100 kgs.

With just these equipment and a skipping rope- i can create new workouts every single day of the year. It’s amazing.

ESSENTIAL HOME GROOMING APPLIANCES FOR MEN & WOMEN

Next let’s talk about grooming. We are going back to the days of getting hair cuts and grooming at home - so my hair style is quickly going to go out of style as it grows. Jokes apart - here are some grooming products that will make salon at home so much easier. Remember i’m only talking about essentials and not full salon at home including massages, pedicures etc. If you are looking for that - drop me a comment

  1. Men’s grooming appliances - Hair trimmer - this has made hair cutting for my husband so much easier. You can set various lengths that you may want to cut and just go to town with it. It is a bit difficult if hair is think - but it is much easier than using scissors all across. If you are somebody who likes to keep a clean scalp - then you may want the skull shaver - which has been getting some really good reviews! It’s extremely ergonomic to hold and does not require another person to assist you to shave your head. It can also be used for

  2. Women’s grooming appliances - I’m not surprised that there are many more specialized appliances available for women.

    1. I’ve gotten laser treatment done - but I’ve had epilators since I was a teenager. Epilators are a big boon in this lockdown. I’ve been using the braun epilator from a long time. It’s become a lot more advanced these days and probably more painless as well than the version I have. I’ve linked to a few in the description.

    2. The other product I’ve been recently eyeing are face epilators. These are specialized for facial hair where hair is thinner and skin is sensitive. You will see in the video I will make about laser hair treatment that facial hair takes the longest to go away - due to it being fairly thin. I know threading so I do that myself but if you like to remove facial hair - some of these products are quite handy.

I normally do not recommend trimmers or shavers - for any body part - so these are mostly epilators.

ESSENTIAL CLEANING APPLIANCES

The first two on my list are of course the dishwasher and robot vacuum cleaner. I’m not going to talk too much about it as I have spoken quite a bit of it on my channel - but it saves so much time and energy of the daily chore of washing vessels and sweeping & mopping. SIGNIFICANT time savings - over 2 hours everyday and ofcourse a much cleaner house. I’ve linked to two playlists regarding this if you have any questions about it.

The next on my list is a washer dryer or a separate dryer if you already have a washing machine you are not planning to change. If you are somebody who washes clothes everyday, you probably spend quite a bit of time hanging your clothes for dry and then removing them - I would say at a minimum about 15+ minutes). I personally find this a big chore and have recently upgraded to a Samsung washer dryer. As we speak today - I’m waiting for the installation to complete. I will create a separate review on this once I use it for a few weeks. That said - I already have a video comparing various washer dryers if you are interested. Now if only they make an appliance to fold clothes automatically :D

ESSENTIAL COOKING APPLIANCES

Next on my list are food processors. Many of us city dwellers are moving from a world with cooks to cooking ourselves. The biggest chore for me when cooking is kneading dough for chapatis. Anything that makes this easier is love. Whether you are making chapatis, cutting veggies, baking cakes/bread, making juices - food processors have an accessory for it all. I’ve spoken on this channel about my love for multi use appliances and food processors is one such great appliance. I ran a poll recently on my channel and approximately 50% of you said you are planning to buy a food processor - I’ll make a separate video to talk about this in detail.
