So, today I'll compare various stick vacuum cleaners which are available in a cordless fashion. I'm not going to be comparing the traditional vacuum cleaners like the ones you get from Eureka Forbes, Phillips, and so on, which are actually corded, as well as come in a different form factor as you can see on the screen.
The reason I'm more keen on stick vacuum cleaners which are cordless is because it is a lot more convenient to move around. It can be collapsed, so you can use it for dusting as well.

MODELS COMPARED
So, I'm going to be comparing five different models today: there're two models by iLife, there is one model by Eufy, there is a model by Black and Decker, as well as, of course, the Dyson. How can we leave out the Dyson?
So, towards the end, as always, I will highlight my recommendation. So, watch until the end if you would like to see that.
PRICING
So, first, let's start with the pricing. As you can see on the screen, the Dyson is the most expensive - they have been around in the market, they're tried and tested. The v11 Absolute Pro is available for about ₹53,000. There are some of the older models that are available at a lower price point about ₹35,000 to ₹36,000 as well.
The rest of the models are available at a somewhat similar price point between ₹14,000 and ₹16,000.
BATTERY
Now, let's talk about the battery capacity. Almost all of them have a 2500 mah battery; almost all are actually swappable, except for the iLife G80, which does not have a swappable battery. What that means is that whenever you need to charge the battery, you have to connect the entire device to the charging point; whereas in the other cases, you could actually have a spare battery, and then use that spare battery to extend your running time. That is not possible with the iLife G80.
RUN TIME
The next thing is the running time. So, as you can see on the screen, the Dyson has the best running time of about 60 minutes with one charge; Black and Decker is the next one, which is almost the same. The rest of them have between 40 to 45 minutes, which could be enough if you're only doing a deep cleaning.
SUCTION POWER
Let's talk about the suction power. So, in the case of suction power, each vendor actually uses a different metric. There's no good way of converting one from the other but, in this case, as you can see, the iLife has between 20,000 and 22,000 pa. Now, if I were to compare this with the suction power of a robot vacuum cleaner, a robot vacuum cleaner only has a suction power anywhere between 800 to 3,000 pa. In this case, you're talking about 20,000 to 22,000 pa. So, the difference is significantly higher, so, the suction power, in this case, is much higher.
When it comes to the others, the Eufy, as well as the Dyson version, have 120 AW, which is good enough. But, as you can see, the Black and Decker one is only about 40 AW, which is significantly lower.
COLLAPSIBLE OR NOT
Next is, "are these vacuum cleaners collapsible?"
All of them that we're comparing today are collapsible. What this means is that you can collapse the form factor into a smaller factor if you only want to do dusting, as you can see on the screen.
DUST COLLECTION BIN
Now, let's talk about the dust collection bin.
In the case of a stick vacuum cleaner, the dust collection bin is washable. The filters are also washable. So, you can just empty the dust into a dustbin, as you can see on the screen, and then you can wash the container and reuse it after it's dry.
This is very, very convenient because if you have, in the past, used a traditional vacuum cleaner, they have those dust bags which are actually very difficult to wash and use. So, compared to that, I think this makes it very, very convenient.
Now, the capacity of the dustbin itself is the highest in the iLife H70, whereas the rest of them have around 500 ml capacity.
WASHABLE FILTERS
Now, the filters itself that they're using in the bins are washable. If you are comparing this also with a robot vacuum cleaner, in that case, the filters were not washable, which means that you actually did need to purchase additional filters on a regular basis. That is not the case in the case of the stick vacuum cleaner.
ATTACHMENTS
Now, when it comes to attachments, Dyson has a lot more attachments compared to the rest of them. Most of the others have a roller brush both in foam as well as bristle, they have a crevice tool, they have a 2-in-1 nozzle, and so on; so, in general, fairly common and consistent. The only difference is with the iLife G80, which also has a corner brush - if you've used a robot vacuum cleaner, you know that, in the corner, the brush actually helps to pull the dust from the corners of your floor, so this is similar.
STORAGE
Now, from a storage point of view, all these models are wall-mounted with a dock which you can actually connect to the power. Some of them do have attachments for the floor dock as well, like the iLife G80; and then, in the case of Dyson, a floor dock is available but it's available as an extra, which you need to purchase.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
There are a number of additional features.
In the iLife, the bottom is a swivel head. In the case of H70, it's a swivel of 180°; in the case of G80, it's a swivel of 270°. All of them have an LED light, so if you're cleaning under the sofas and so on, you can see the area where the cleaning is happening.
Almost all of them have a real-time status on the vacuum cleaner itself, so it helps you to understand how much more run time is left when you need to empty the bin and clean the bins, and so on.
REVIEWS
And talking about reviews, so, the iLife versions have around 4+ rating; the Dayson, of course, has the best reviews and has a lot more reviews because it's been around in the market - it's an old brand, so it's got about 4.7 / 5; the Eufy and the Black and Decker don't have great reviews, less than four - in my opinion, they do have a lot of reviews that have less than four.
In the case of the Eufy version, there have been some heating issues that have been called out in the reviews. So, that's something that you may want to consider if you're going to be considering the Eufy version.
AFTER-SALES AND SPARES
Now, let's talk about the after-sales service. So, almost all of these vendors have their service centers in one or more cities. They don't have it in every single city and town in India.
In general, these days, they are providing video-based installation and after-sales service for most of their products. In case you have an issue with your equipment, they have lots of plans to ship it to their service center if it is within warranty.
The only caveat is the Eufy. They don't have a service center in India, they're actually managed by a distributor. Service has been a problem for Eufy for both the robot vacuum cleaner as well as the stick vacuum cleaners.
Talking about spare parts availability, for iLife and Dyson, the spare parts are fairly recently available in the country; whereas there seems to be an issue with spare parts for Black and Decker.
WARRANTY
Coming to the warranty, the Eufy version, as well as the Dyson version, give a two-year warranty, whereas the rest of the versions only give a one-year warranty.
DYSON - YES OR NO?
So, based on this research, of course, the Dyson is the best in terms of product specifications, in terms of after-sales service, in terms of robustness as well. There are some examples where customers have said that Dyson has even replaced some or more of their parts when it is within the warranty period, no questions asked. So, that has been a big plus in terms of the after-sales service of Dyson.
So, if you have the budget for it, you may want to consider Dyson. The older versions are available at a cheaper price point with not too much significant difference in the specifications itself. So, that might be something you may want to consider.
One thing to remember is that everything comes at a price. So, in the case of Dyson, their spare parts are expensive as well. So, in the case you need to replace, let's say the battery, or you want a dock, and so on, all of the spare parts are more expensive compared to other vendors in the market.
IF NOT DYSON, THEN WHAT?
Among the rest of the ones that have review, because they're at a much lower price point between ₹14,000 to ₹16,000 - ₹17,000, I prefer the iLife versions. Both the iLife H70 and the G80 are fairly good. I would prefer the iLife H70, primarily because the batteries are swappable, so you can actually have two batteries and extend the run time if you would like. However, the batteries are market available, so that is something we may need to check with the vendor before purchasing this swappable battery version.
So, tell me, do you think a cordless vacuum cleaner is required? I already have a Eureka Forbes corded version, one of the older models, which I do use occasionally but it is fairly cumbersome. What's your thought? Drop me a comment and let's have a chat there.
