Dyson TP07 Air Purifier - Demo + Review

Dyson sent me their latest air purifier Dyson TP07 and it could not have come at a better time of the year when the air pollution levels are generally at an all time high. I’ve been using a Dyson air purifier for a few months now and love it.

Like all my sponsored reviews - I always highlight both the pros and improvements of any product - so you can make an informed choice. I’ll start with the pros and then jump to the things you need to be aware of towards the end.

Here are 5 reasons why I believe the Dyson Air Purifier is totally worth the price - if you have the budget for it.

#1 - The Dyson Air Purifier is always sensing - Yes it is recommended to keep the air purifier always on to maintain the air quality. But you know us Indians - we are always trying to optimize as much as possible. One of the features I was not aware of when I first started using the air purifier was that the air purifier is always sensing. As soon as any one of the metrics - such as the air quality, PM2.5, PM10, VOC or NO2 goes beyond the threshold, the air purifier automatically starts purifying the air.

<To illustrate - I’m going to light an agarbatti near the Dyson to show how it automatically detects and starts purifying the air>

Although it does start automatically, it does not stop automatically - it does require to be manually turned off or you can use the timer option in the app to turn it off - you can set a timing between 15 min to 9 hours for turning it off.

#2 - The Dyson Air Purifier is suitable for large rooms or entire homes altogether - If you have a large living + dining or rooms upto 600 sq ft - other air purifiers may not do justice to purifying air in all parts of the room. The 350 degree oscillation of the air purifier and air multiplier technology in Dyson help to project pure air in all directions of the room - helping it achieve a good distribution of clean air throughout the room.

A common complaint against Dyson is that it does not have a high CADR and does not publish the CADR - while CADR may be a good metric to measure purification in small rooms upto 128 sq ft, it does not do justice for large rooms as it only uses one sensor placed in a small room of size 128 sq ft. The CADR metric cannot capture the purification in all parts of the room - which is what the Dyson POLAR test does - with 9 different sensors in different parts of a larger room of size upto 300 sq ft to capture the purification efficiency.

#3 - Best in class purification - If you’ve seen my video on what to look for in an Air purifier, a HEPA 13 or 14 filter is an absolute must. In this new air purifier - not just the filters, but the whole machine meets the HEPA 13 standards. They’ve reengineered the machine to prevent polluted air from bypassing the filters and carrying pollutants back into the room. This means that it can capture H1N1 virus and 99.95% of particles as small as 0.1 microns such as allergens, bacteria, virus, pollen and mould (or fungus). No, it cannot capture the COVID virus just yet. This air purifier is particularly useful if you have family members with allergies or pets at home.

#4 - Convenience of operation - If you are looking for the APPLE of Air purifiers - then this is it! The design of this air purifier makes it a conversation starter in any parties (yes, speaking from experience!). You can operate it with a remote - that is so sleek and magnetized - you can just store it on top of the machine itself. You can also operate it using the mobile app where you can see real time and over time statistics of the air purifier - like air quality, PM2.5, PM10, VOC, NO2, Humidity, Temperature, filter life, schedule your machine to start / stop at a particular time and so on. In addition - you can also operate it using Alexa, google home or Siri.

#5 - Superior customer service - irrespective of whether you decide to buy a Dyson product or not, I urge you to chat/ speak with their customer service once to understand how customer service actually should be done. I had purchased a Dyson vacuum cleaner previously and also was sent an air purifier previously - I was blown away by their customer service. Humble, polite, to the point and always willing to provide answers without pushing you to purchase. It is just outstanding. I’m sure a lot of you Dyson owners can vouch for that! The air purifier itself gives a 2 year warranty on parts and labor.

So those were 5 reasons why the Dyson Air Purifier Cool TP07 is totally worth it. Here are a few things you need to be aware of before you make a decision:

  1. The Dyson air purifier does not come with a pre-filter - unlike many other air purifiers. While a pre-filter is not mandatory - it does help to extend the life of the filters themselves as it helps to capture larger particles before the expensive HEPA filters. Filter replacement is approximately once in 12 months if you are using it for 9-10 hours in a day, longer if used for fewer hours. Together, the filter replacements cost about Rs. 5000. (1600 hours of use)

  2. While the air purifier does have a bladeless fan - don’t expect it to cool the room. It is not a replacement for an AC.
