Bepure Alken Stainless Steel Water Purifier Demo and Review

A few weeks ago I created a video on best stainless steel water purifiers and Bepure Alken was one of my top recommendations. So I reached out to the Bepure team to share a product to demo. It’s also exciting that they are a Made in India brand.

BENEFITS OF STAINLESS STEEL WATER PURIFIERS

I don’t think I need to talk too much about the benefits of using stainless steel in general - not just for water purifiers. However, the majority of water purifiers so far have a plastic tank - ofcourse with food grade plastic. Water purifiers with stainless steel tanks are known to have lower cleaning requirements - as they are not as prone to bacteria and algae growth after purification. Bepure Alken uses 304 grade stainless steel - which is not prone to corrosion and rusting - and therefore ideal for water storage. The tank also does not have any joints - therefore again not prone to rusting as welded joints could be prone to rusting. The tank has a good size of about 12L - which can be enough for 2 days for a family of 2 or 1 day for a family of 4 - without refilling the tank - assuming the water is used for drinking only, not cooking.

Before we start - let’s check the input TDS of water in my house - so we can measure after the filtration the TDS of water.

BEPURE ALKEN RO-UV-UF-ALKALINE WATER PURIFIER

The Bepure alken is an RO water purifier. A well known challenge with RO water purifiers is it removes essential minerals therefore reducing the TDS of water by almost 90% and makes water acidic i.e., reduces the PH level of water. Such water can be unsuitable for drinking on a regular basis.

So to counter this -

  1. Bepure has an Alkaline system - which means it maintains the output PH levels at neutral levels of 7.5-8.5 (means water is mild alkaline in nature). Having water with excessive acidity over long periods of time is known to cause acid reflux issues and heartburn.

  2. Bepure also has a TDS controller - which ensures the TDS of water output does not go below healthy drinking levels. I know many of you have raised concerns with me regarding TDS controller. I’ve addressed this before but will summarize again - since RO water purifiers by default reduce the TDS in water by 90% or upwards, there could be a possibility where your water output is not potable for drinking due to low TDS. Hence it’s important to be able to control the output TDS - which is where the controller comes in. The water purifier adds a miniscule quantity of UV-UF filtered water back - so the overall quality of water is not impacted, but it is essential to make sure water is potable. If you see the reviews of water purifiers that do not have this - there are a lot of complaints saying water TDS is reduced to less than 30 with no way to control it. You can set output TDS between 50 and 150 ppm. I’m going to set mine to about 120ppm.

  3. There are a number of filters and systems that the water goes through to make sure you have potable drinking water

    1. First you have to remove large particles and sediments from the water - so that the RO membrane - which is the heart of such a water purifier (and one that is most expensive amongst other filters) is not harmed. So Bepure has a Sediment filter which helps with this.

    2. Sometimes water has an odd taste and smell - a carbon filter helps to remove that.

    3. The RO membrane helps to kill bacteria and viruses upto 0.0001 microns. This is where a bulk of the purification happens. In the case of Bepure alken - it removes upto 0.0005 microns.

    4. Once the bacteria and virus is killed, it could be suspended in water - the UF filter helps to remove that

    5. We already spoke about the TDS controller and alkaline module - so won’t go over that again.

  4. Let’s check the output TDS here after the filtration. Like I mentioned earlier - I had requested the installation engineer to set it at about 120ppm and as you can see - it shows around that range itself.

  5. We get a mix of municipal and groundwater where I stay. So the input TDS keeps varying based on what is used. But the output TDS has remained consistent.

  6. The taste of water is also good - not acidic. So shows the alkaline module is doing its job well.

WARRANTY AND SERVICE OF BEPURE ALKEN

The Bepure alken product has a 1 year warranty on the product with 3 year warranty against rusting of the stainless steel tank. They also have service in 12,000 pin codes in India - therefore having a coverage in over 60% of the country. They do have an installation charge of Rs. 500, but do not charge additionally for the pre-filter. In my opinion, since the product already has a sediment filter - a pre-filter may not absolutely be required. In addition, Bepure provides a range of water processing solutions such as water purifiers and water softeners - which in my opinion is a need of the hour - considering the quality of water situation in many parts of the country. They also have a UV-UF water purifier which is useful in areas which have TDS less than 200 ppm.
