Dyson Demo
Now that I have your attention - let’s talk about how the Dyson sucks out the dust from nooks and corners of my home.
I am a HUGE proponent of the robot vacuum cleaner - I assume many of you landed on my channel due to the videos I made using the robot vacuum cleaner. Robot vacuum cleaner is great and I would never NOT have a robot vacuum cleaner going forward, ever. While it is great for cleaning floors - it cannot do anything more than that and hence I bought a Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner recently. Previously I made a video about why a house requires both a regular vacuum as well as a robot vacuum - it’s not an either or (unless you want to spend time doing the cleaning). Most of these you can also do with other cordless vacuums and if you want a cheaper cordless vacuum - you can check this video I’ve linked in the description.

So here are 13 reasons I bought the Dyson in addition to having a robot vacuum cleaner. I’ll also talk about some of the cons in the end - so wait till the end.
Dusting - my home has tons of dust. Staying in one of the busiest parts of Bangalore and right next to one of the busiest intersections - dust is way too much and I cannot have that. A lot of my electronics like soundbar and artifacts get difficult to clean without a powerful vacuum cleaner and the Dyson helps me with that. (show mirror to show how much dust)
Cleaning fans - I struggled to clean the fan with my corded vacuum - the cord was never long enough and I had to use a wet cloth for cleaning instead. With the long extension rod - cleaning the fans is a lot easier.
Cleaning cobwebs - like the fans, reaching the cobwebs was quite a task with my corded vacuum. Hence i used the broom and the cleaning was never good enough and the cobwebs all over the floor or the broom. With the dyson - it’s very convenient to reach and clean the cobwebs. Even cobwebs on the outside of the windows can be cleaned with ease with the up top adaptor.
Cleaning balcony and window rails - this is one of the most neglected areas for cleaning and can get very dusty. The flexible extension hose makes it easier to reach previously non reachable areas of the rails and helps to clean. But in my opinion - just doing a dusting is not sufficient for rails - especially if it is soiled with a combination of rain water and dust. Drop me a comment if you’d like a quick demo video on how to do this with ease.
Cleaning mattresses, sofas - we previously used to call an external agency to do this atleast once a year because it was quite convenient and they did a deep clean. Since the start of covid, this has stopped and hence the dyson helps with this
Cleaning inside of the car - this is again a big benefit of the cordless vacuum cleaner. We earlier used to have our car cleaner do the inside once a week and then a shampoo wash at the service center whenever we give it for service. However, now we have nto gotten the inside cleaned outside of service for a really long time. The dyson cordless vacuum cleaner helps with this - cleaning both the floor of the car as well as the seats.
Cleaning inside of cabinets - when was the last time you cleaned the inside of your wardrobe or kitchen cabinets. Probably not in a long time. Although these cabinets remain closed, a lot of dust settles on the floor of the cabinets. Esp. in wardrobes - a mixture of hair, dust, makeup and other elements make it a breeding ground for dust mites and bacteria. A cordless vacuum like the Dyson help with cleaning this as well.
Cleaning the attic - pause this video for a minute and go see how much dust is in your attic. Even if you have not opened it in the last 1 year. It’s amazing how things go get settled there. The dyson has an up top extension which helps with cleaning areas not easy to reach or see.
Quick cleaning - when you are expecting guests and don’t have time to run your robot vacuum cleaner - you can do a rapid cleaning using the floor cleaning extension of Dyson. What a robot vacuum takes about 1+ hour to clean, you can do a quick cleaning in about 10-15 minutes.
Cleaning crevices - have you ever checked between your sofa seats or on the cot at the edges of your mattress the amount of dust that gets settled? You need a crevice extension to clean that well and Dyson has that!
Cleaning corners - Robot vacuum cleaners do a great job of cleaning the floors but based on what model you use, sometimes the corners don’t get cleaned very well. In this case I’m referring to corners not edges - edges are cleaned really well. So a vacuum cleaner helps with this.
Cleaning wall skirting - another much ignored area but difficult to clean with a regular vacuum cleaner or with a broom. With a cordless vacuum cleaner - so easy, can cover the whole house in less than 10 minutes
Cleaning doors - if your doors have crevices like mine, it’s a catchment area for dust. Sigh. super easy to clean with the dyson, just run the brush attachment along the crevices to clean it out. Each door takes less than a minute to clean.
I can find many more reasons and I still maintain I don’t have an OCD for cleaning :D But these are good enough for now. Maybe I’ll create another video to cover more in detail.
That said - it’s not all hunky dory in the Dyson world. Here are some of the issues I find:
The suction power on the lowest mode is really low - it is not good enough for any kind of intensive task. It is enough for floors, but not enough for anywhere else that has lot of dust - like mattresses, sofas, window rails - pretty much everything we have spoken about before. We need to be atleast at the mid or high mode for cleaning - which brings me to my next point
Battery life is good in the min mode, just enough in the mid mode and abysmal in the boost/high mode. In the high mode, it does not give more than 5-8 min. In the mid mode, it gives about 30 min which is good enough for a weekend of cleaning and in the min mode it gives 45 min+.
Since the motor is in the machine itself (unlike in a corded model where the motor is on the floor), carrying the dyson - esp. In tasks that require you to keep the motor suspended - can be difficult for some people. In fact, we had to return the one that we purchased for my in-laws as it was quite heavy for them to operate.
Now I bought the v10 model and not the v11. Why v10 and not v11 - the minimal specification difference between v10 and v11 does not justify the pricing in my opinion (I’ve covered that in this video linked in the description) and I got a discount for v10 and got it for 39K - which further justified the purchase. I would have gone for a v8 otherwise.
